Google Draw
Google Draw, which is a free app on Google Drive, is an excellent tool for teachers to either draw diagrams and graphic organizers, or for teachers to create student lesson plans, such as web quests.
I used Google Draw as a resource to create a web quest on The Civil Rights Movement, which can be seen below:
Civil Rights Web Quest
Students were to navigate the web quest, gaining background knowledge for the time period in which their quarter two class novels would take place. They were to research important activists in The Civil Rights Movement, read about important court cases, and view images and videos relating to their unit of Historical Fiction. This form of visual literacy creates a more interactive classroom, rather than just giving the typical hand out to students. It also allows for students to be empowered and take ownership of their education. The web quest gives students a choice, and also allows for them to practice their research skills, especially in regards to reading and analyzing non-fiction information, a focus of the new CCSS.
